Just finished reading Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult. After first reading My Sister’s Keeper, also by the same author, I just fell in love with her writing. It was so engaging and it felt so real. The book really moved me to tears (second book ever to do that) while the author was able to bring up so many controversial issues that we face today.
Since then, I’ve been keen on reading any of her other books and I’ve read The Pact and Picture Perfect. While I half liked “The Pact”, didn’t like Picture Perfect, I sorta half liked Perfect Match.
I admit that it was interesting. Jodi Picoult does a good job in raising hard to answer questions and in this case the question was, “should crime get punished provided the reason can be justified?”. The other question was “to what extent should we protect our children?” or in other words “where is the line as to how much should we do for the people we love?”
I felt that I really wanted to know how Jodi would treat the defendant in this legal case, where a mother of a child who was sexually abused murdered the abuser, whereby the abuser was a priest but at the same time I hated the main character (the defendant and mother of the child).
In all, it was an interesting read but it wasn’t as good as My Sister’s Keeper so I was disappointed a little. I have another book on my list to read that is also written by her, so I hope it won’t disappoint as I was with this one.
